History of the Waterford Greenway

The Waterford Greenway, a scenic 46-kilometre trail in County Waterford, Ireland, follows the route of the former Waterford to Mallow railway line, which operated from 1878 until its closure in 1987. Originally serving the region’s agricultural and fishing communities, the railway’s decline in the mid-20th century left the track unused for many years. In the early 21st century, plans to convert the disused railway into a greenway began, leading to its official opening on March 25, 2017.
